DSEAR HAC Assessment
DSEAR HAC Assessment
Our DSEAR HAC Assessment uses strict criteria to evaluate processes, dangerous substances and explosive atmospheres, in order to identify and mitigate risks which could lead to fires, explosions, or the release of dangerous substances. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your premises and personnel.
What does a DSEAR HAC Assessment involve?
Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations
A DSEAR assessment involves strategies to eliminate ignition sources to mitigate the risk of fire and explosions, it also reviews the potential impact and severity of explosions, including overpressure release, explosion suppression, and venting to safe areas.
HAC (Hazard Area Classification)
Additionally, it identifies hazardous zones within the premises and classifies them depending on the likelihood of a gas or flammable vapour existing in the atmosphere, distinguishing between Powder, Dust and Gas, and Vapour. This classification is known as the Hazardous Area Classification (HAC).
Control Measures
The crucial step is the action taken based on the assessment findings, which involves looking at specific control measures to:
- Reduce the quantity of dangerous substances
- Minimise instances of release
- Control releases at the source
- Prevent the formation of explosivee atmospheres
- Collect, contain and remove releases to a safe place
- Avoid sources of ignition
- Avoid adverse environments (e.g. temperature)
- Segregate incompatible substances
Mitigating Risks
Practices to mitigate risks include:
- Health and safety training courses to enhance awareness of DSEAR-compliant working practices
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Appropriate equipment
- Compliant waste disposal
